It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Journey, and it’s a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well.
Since coming back from my vacation, I’ve not been very efficient in the reading department, which just goes to prove what I’ve always believed to be true–real life puts a cramp in my reading style. Until retirement, then (only another 25 years to go), I guess I’ll have to make due with the free time I have.
I started The Almond Picker by Simonetta Hornby while still on vacation, but I haven’t picked it back up since coming home. It’s well written but very, very slow, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to get interested enough to finish it.
I did finish one book this past week, Forged in Blood II by Lindsay Buroker, which was the long-awaited finale to her Emperor’s Edge series of books. It was a fun read but felt a bit rushed and the writing was sloppy at times. There are also some inconsistencies in the plotting that probably could have been caught with closer editing. Still, it was nice to finally get a resolution to the series.
I’m halfway through Moranthology by Caitlin Moran, which is hilarious. It’s a collection of her work that’s been printed elsewhere, but as I’d never read anything of hers before, it’s all new to me. I’m really enjoying dipping in and out of this one, and I definitely want to read How to Be a Woman next.
I also started The Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes, which I borrowed from the library, and I’m enjoying it so far. The main character is a bit of a mystery at this point and I’m interested in learning more about her and her backstory.
What are you reading this week?
“The Almond Picker” has a beautiful cover. I’m sorry to hear it’s so slow. I’m a very impatient reader, and slow books bore me to tears. As for me, I’m not in the middle of anything right now. I just finished Susan Dennard’s second book in her young adult trilogy (and I wish I hadn’t started this series until the last book was out!), and I’m trying to decide which book to start next. It will probably be Jennifer Miller’s “The Year of the Gadfly,” but I’m not sure. Nothing is really appealing to me right now.
Ooo good reads this week. I am starting the week of with Gone Girl. A tbr pile read..yeah me:)
I just adore most of the book covers out there lately but it’s a shame when the story inside lags. Hope you get back to speed this week and enjoy.
I’ve had The Last Letter From Your Lover on my wish list forever! I need to move it up to the top.
The JoJo Moyes book looks tempting…enjoy your week!
Here’s MY MONDAY READING POST
Forged in Blood II sounds kinda interesting, the series seems to be popular on Goodreads. I may have to check that out. Looks steampunk-ish and I kinda like those sometimes. Have a good week!
Greg, it’s a really good series overall, and definitely a bit steampunk. Plus the first one in the series is free as an e-book, so you can always try it out to see what you think.
I haven’t heard of any of those books. I am not a fan of slow books either.

Nice variety. I haven’t heard of any of them though. Come see my Monday wrap-up. Have a great reading week.
Looks like a good week. ENJOY.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
