Teaser Tuesday: I’ll Give You the Sun

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teasers:

Is this why he keeps jumping, then? To become for the briefest moment who he used to be?

This is what I want: I want to grab my brother’s hand and run back through time, losing years like coats falling from our shoulders.

from I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson.

I was excited to read this new novel by Jandy Nelson and so far it’s just as good as her first (The Sky is Everywhere). She has a very unique writing style and uses such unusual imagery–a bit quirky but strangely beautiful–that it’s pure pleasure to read one of her books.

My teaser:

I needed to drive now, to lose myself in the night, and I wanted to feel the thunder of hundreds of stampeding horses beneath me while I was doing it.

and

“I don’t feel like asking my fairy little boyfriend.”

from Faefever by Karen Marie Moning

My reading is a bit out of control at the moment–I have books coming out the wazoo!  As I try to get my shelves and my blogging back under control, I’m continuing to read the Fever series by Moning, which I’m enjoying more as it goes on.  I’m about halfway through this third one and so far it’s pretty action packed.

Teaser Tuesday: The Temptation of the Night Jasmine

My teaser:

Like Lord Henry, many of the members appeared to have no qualms about their identity being known; they called one another frankly by name and chatted openly about this ball or that rout and whether the next satanic celebration could be scheduled so as not to conflict with someone’s sister’s come out.  “I expect you all to dance with her!” bleated the fond brother.  “Or m’mother will have my head!”

from The Temptation of the Night Jasmine by Lauren Willig

If you haven’t read any of the books in this series, I really recommend them for their light romance, mystery, and most of all Willig’s clever wit.  The teaser lines made me laugh out loud when I read them.

Teaser Tuesday: One Was a Soldier

My teaser:

“It’s all gone wrong.” Her voice was muffled against his chest, but he realized she was crying.  “It’s all gone wrong, and I have to make it right.”

He had a sick feeling that she wasn’t talking about Tally McNabb.  Not talking about Tally McNabb at all.

from One Was a Soldier by Julia Spencer-Fleming

I haven’t done a teaser in a while, but considering how much I’ve been reading of this series this past week, I can definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great contemporary mystery.  Love it!

Teaser Tuesday: Cutting for Stone

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

My teaser:

“My mother grew up at the ocean’s edge, in sight of the ancient Chinese fishing nets cantilevered from long bamboo poles and dangling over the water like giant cobwebs.  The sea was the proverbial “breadbasket” of her people, provider of prawns and fish.”

from Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese

It’s not exactly easy to open to a random page when reading an e-book, but I did the best I could.  And I had to look up what ‘cantilevered’ meant–which I guess makes the quote a good one for my vocabulary!
